#1 Bill O'Reilly's Radio Show Fading Fast
Bill O'Reilly may have to do major surgery -- and fast -- to save his faltering national radio program.
Already, reviews of the program by listeners have been less than flattering.
And now some hard numbers are beginning to show the cracks.
NewsMax hears that "snap" Arbitron ratings taken by WOR, O'Reilly's flagship station in New York, aren't encouraging.
A radio industry insider predicts that O'Reilly will drop out of radio within one year.
While O'Reilly's WOR ratings show a "spike" of interest in the opening few days of the new show, the numbers suddenly took a nosedive.
In fact, the ratings show that O'Reilly's New York radio audience has fallen well below the audience that veteran drive-time host Bob Grant was pulling during the same time slot. Grant's time slot was moved to make way for O'Reilly's program, which airs from 3 to 5 PM.
Insider says the numbers show listeners are tuning in to O'Reilly to check him out and don't like what they hear and are not coming back.
Nothing unusual here. It's rare that TV or radio hosts can switch mediums and carry their audiences. One exception is radio host Don Imus: His MSNBC cable program continues to draw among the highest ratings for the floundering news network.

#2 Poll: Conservatives Don't Want Cuban Embargo Lifted
When President Bush recently traveled to Miami and reiterated his intention not to lift the U.S. embargo until Castro takes steps to improve human rights and hold free election, the media played the story as a political position meant to appease Cuban-Americans.
But a recent NewsMax online poll shows that conservative Americans overwhelmingly do not want the embargo lifted.
Of approximately 80,000 votes cast, 82% of NewsMax readers said they opposed lifting the U.S. embargo.
Participants of the unscientific poll were even more angry with Jimmy Carter for his recent trip to Cuba where he bashed Bush Administration policies and accused them of fabricating claims of Cuba's bio-weapons programs. Slightly more than 89% of respondents said they "disapproved" of Carter's trip to Cuba.
#3 'Sharp' Pope Won't Resign
While rumors swirl that Pope John Paul II will resign when he travels to his native Poland this August, a close Polish friend of the Pope says don't believe the rumors.
In fact, the friend, Krzysztof Zanussi, producer of three films on Karol Wojtyla, explained that he met with the Pope recently at the Vatican.
Zanussi said that in contrast to TV images of the ailing Pope, he discovered his friend's "lucidity and sharpness."
"The Pope is not a manager who, grown weak and infirm, is replaced because it is believed that he is unable to handle a business's interests effectively," Zanussi said.
"In the Orthodox Church, it is impossible to remove the figure of the elderly wise man," he added. "I think it is the best perspective to evaluate the question -- superfluous from my point of view -- of the Pope's resignation."
"When seeing an athlete, one suspects that he pursues immediate objectives. However, a weak man can only think of eternal things and transmit extremely valid messages," the Pope's friend added.
#4 Cardinal to Be Outed?
New York media circles were abuzz that a major sitting American was about to be outed for his flamboyant homosexual lifestyle.
The unnamed Cardinal (not Cardinals Law or Egan) was first noted in a blind item in the New York Post's Page Six weeks ago just before the American cardinals met in Rome with the Pope. The paper reported that this same, unidentified Cardinal might be found in one of Rome's many gay bars.
The Cardinal has categorically denied ever having sex with a man or woman, or ever abusing children. He apparently has made some odd references to his "nephews." Since he was an only child, nobody seems to know what he is referring to.

#5 China Building Ties with "Axis of Evil"
While the U.S. sees a significant warming of relations between itself and Russia in the wake of 9-11, this has not been the case with China.
China has given lip service to support for America's war on terrorism, at the very same time it has stepped up its relations with rogue terrorist states, including ones identified by President Bush as the "Axis of Evil."
The London Economist has recently expressed concern that China's "worrying friendships" with rogue nations such as North Korea, Iran, Libya and Iraq are a "flaw" that could undermine the alliance against international terrorism.
In Tehran, Jiang Zemin used a television interview to explain China's view of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict - one critical of "Israeli killings."
On April 24th, during a stopover in Malaysia, Chinese leader Hu Jintao made a sideswipe at America, indicating that in Asia, China would oppose the "bullying superpower."
Since September 11, Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao have played the "Good-Guy-Bad-Guy Game" in diplomacy with the "Axis of Evil" in order to outmaneuver the U.S., reports the Hong Kong Chinese-language Cheng Ming.
The "11 September" incident disrupted communist China's overall diplomatic strategy. In response, overseas trips taken by Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao this year signify a revision in its diplomatic emphasis -- adopting a strategy of "joining hands with the axis of evil in defiance of the anti-terrorist center" -- to counter U.S. dominance in global affairs.
