Bush to Israel: Enough Is Enough!
Steve Malzberg
Friday, April 5, 2002
Late yesterday morning, President George W. Bush, the leader of the free world, the commander in chief of the war on terror,
stood before the world and boldly told the Israelis to stop their war on terror. He told the Israelis to get out of the six
major West Bank towns that they have gone into since they began Operation Defensive Shield a week ago. He said that enough
is enough.
Enough is enough? What exactly does that mean?
Does it mean that the 1,100 suspected terrorists who have been arrested by Israel in their war on terror is enough?
Does it mean that the 40 explosive belts seized from a West Bank factory, belts that would have surely wound up strapped to
the bodies of suicide bombers, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of Israeli woman and children, is enough?
Does it mean that instead of continuing to wait out those on Israel's most wanted list, who are currently holed up inside
churches and Arafat's headquarters and other facilities, the wait has gone on long enough and Israel should withdraw and
let those terrorists and their masterminds go free to strike on yet another day?
Does it mean that the United States is free to fight a war on terror that will go on for years, but that the Jewish state
gets no such luxury?
Two other disturbing pieces of news from the administration yesterday. The president announced that Secretary of State Colin
Powell will be going to the region next week.
What exactly will Powell be doing? Is he going to make sure the Jews end
their war on terror? Will he be scolding the Sharon government for all the Arab nations to hear? Is he going to solicit a
"pledge" from Yasser Arafat, the murderer of more Jews than anyone other than Hitler, that he wants to go back to the
"peace process"?
Even before Powell can make it to Ramallah to prop up Arafat, the U.S. has pressured Israel into letting Gen. Anthony Zinni
visit him. This is nothing short of a disgrace. Will Zinni also be breaking bread with the other filth that the Israelis
believe is hiding out with Arafat?
Maybe Zinni can say a quick hello to the leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation
of Palestine. Or maybe he can take out a message to the families of the two assassins of the Israeli minister of tourism.
They're believed to be there with their buddy Yasser.
Or how about the man who funded the Iranian shipment of arms to the PA? You remember, the ship with 60 tons of heavy
weapons that Arafat swore he had nothing to do with. Maybe Zinni can tell him how the baseball season has started out back
in the U.S.
Some, like Rush Limbaugh and Brit Hume of Fox News have speculated that the Israelis were finishing up anyway, and that
Bush checked this out with Sharon first. It doesn't matter if that is the way it happened or not. What the world saw yesterday
morning, one day after Arab-American leaders met with Colin Powell in Washington, was the president of the United States
scolding Israel.
He was telling the world, especially the Arab world, that Jews will not get all the time they need to do the job they must
do in order to stop the blood of innocent Jews from flowing freely. He showed the world that once again, there is one
standard for the rest of the world and another standard for Jews.
This, my friends, is a dangerous statement to make.
