1. TENET, POWELL SETTING UP BUSH?
Is George Bush being sandbagged by his own
appointees?
A top-level Reagan national security advisor
says he has no doubt that is the case.
This week the CIA, perhaps at the direction of
George Tenet, cleverly leaked the now- famous memo wherein Director George Tenet
warns that the threat from Iraq is indeed small, but if we attack Iraq, the
possibility of Iraqi retaliation is very high.
Some Washington watchers say the leaked memo is
Tenet at his best.
On one hand, he is offering the president
confidential advice. On the other hand, the memo puts him on record warning of
problems if we do invade Iraq.
If disaster happens here in the U.S. after the
U.S. invasion -- a strong likelihood -- Tenet will be in the safest political
position.
Having warned the administration, it will be
difficult for the president to fire Tenet. After all, the Democrats will view
Tenet as a hero who warned of calamity.
Meanwhile, lost in all the smoke will be the
fact that Tenet as head of the CIA bears responsibility for the catastrophic
intelligence failure of 9/11, not to mention any future Iraqi counterstrikes
here in the U.S.
Back to our friend in the Reagan administration
who we met recently at a clandestine dinner.
Our friend, who has been touted by some on
Capitol Hill as a replacement for Tenet, reported to us before the leaked memo
surfaced this past week that Tenet had aligned himself against the hawk faction
seeking to confront Saddam.
Both Tenet and Powell strongly oppose war but
are too smart to challenge Bush and the hawks head on.
Instead, Tenet, Powell and the State Department
have worked feverishly to make a final war action difficult.
Additionally, Condi Rice made the fatal mistake
of appointing her National Security staff from career State Department
officials.
Republicans in previous administrations
discovered that State Department personnel couldn't be counted on to carry out
presidential policy plans, and thus political appointees were used for the NSC
staff as a counterweight to State.
But Condi, who has little experience in
bureaucratic infighting, fell for the trap.
Case in point was the administration's U.N.
strategy.
Our friend says that Bush's visit to the U.N.
and his courting of U.N. support for a strong resolution had turned into a
disaster.
Source explained: "The minute the White House
knew that three of the five permanent members of the Security Council -- China,
Russia and France -- all opposed a strong resolution against Iraq, Bush should
have taken another path and not emphasized the U.N."
"This is a no-brainer," our source continued,
saying that the State Department folks and Powell knew that this was the wrong
approach and doomed to failure.
Bush went along because this it what he was
advised to do. But his advisers want him to fail, and they want so much
international opposition that it will thwart his plans. If Bush proceeds, he
will do so against international sentiment and at high diplomatic cost.
2. EUROPE FURIOUS WITH U.S. DEMANDS
Still another reason the U.N. approach may have
been a mistaken one is the anger it has engendered among European allies.
The Europeans believe that the Bush
administration has made unreasonable demands on the Iraqis, demands so high they
are tantamount to an occupation, demands that will never be accepted by the
Iraqis
Here is the listing of some of these demands, as
published by Britain's Guardian:
The U.S.(as a permanent member of the U.N.
Security Council) can ask to be present on any inspection team and thus gain
access to any part of the country.
The inspectors can set up bases throughout the
country. They will be accompanied at those bases by soldiers under the U.N.
banner sufficient to protect them.
The U.N. will have the right to declare no-fly,
no-drive and exclusion zones, ground and air transit corridors, to be enforced
either by the U.N. or by member states that could include the U.S.
Iraq must agree to free and unrestricted landing
of aircraft, including unmanned spy planes.
The U.N. can take anyone it wishes to interview
out of Iraq, along with his or her family.
Any false information provided by Iraq or any
failure to comply with the resolution would automatically entitle member states
to use all necessary means to restore international peace.
3. NEW REAGAN DOCUMENTS SURFACE
NewsMax was the first to report on thousands of
documents that were unearthed in the personal papers of former President Reagan.
These documents proved that Reagan wrote almost
his speeches, columns and radio addresses from the time he left the California
governorship until he was inaugurated.
The documents formed the basis of the
best-selling book "Reagan In His Own Hand." This book deflated liberal myths
that Reagan was just a non-thinking puppet, an actor playing a role.
Now we hear that some 10,000 pieces of Reagan's
personal correspondence throughout his life have been discovered.
These documents will form the basis of another
blockbuster book, to be published next year.
The letters show that Reagan was not only a
prolific writer, but intimately involved in the details of his political career,
the development of his ideological beliefs, and the formation and running of his
administration.
The letters are said to bare many revelations
about Reagan's private views on a myriad of issues, as well as his relationship
behind the scenes with major political figures, including Eisenhower, Nixon,
Thatcher and the pope.

4. CHARLES BARKLEY: DEMOCRATS KEEP BLACKS
POOR
You may have caught Charles Barkley on the talk
show circuit promoting his new book, "I May Be Wrong, But I Doubt It." But you
can be sure you didn't hear about Barkley's political views.
For sure, Barkley does not follow the party line
among African-American celebs -- especially when it comes to politics.
In fact, the ever-outspoken former NBA star and
current TBS/TNT broadcast celebrity has a few choice words for Democrats, the
GOP ... all Americans, in fact. In his new book Barkley holds forth on
everything political.
He writes that after published reports suggested
he might become a Republican, his concerned mother said to him, "Charles,
Republicans are for rich people."
He answered her succinctly, "Mom, I'm rich."
Barkley has a few other things to say:
He wonders, if our system is so inclusive, why
there are no black or Hispanic governors. How many black or Latino senators are
there, even though their combined numbers make up 20 percent of the U.S.
population?
The National Republican Black Caucus sent people
to speak with Barkley, but, he wrote, "I understand how the game works." He
wants to help, but Barkley wants his hometown of Leeds and downtown Birmingham,
Ala., to be rebuilt first.
He will not be a token black for any party.
He doesn't want to be someone who sits around
counting his money, never helping anyone. "There's no way God allowed me to make
all this money ... and not help people improve their lives."
He also drops this bomb on readers: "The biggest
misconception is that the Democratic Party does so much to help poor people. In
a whole lot of cases, the Democratic Party keeps people poor."
He goes on to say that nearly every person in
his hometown is a Democrat, and their lives are no better than they were 20
years ago.
Asked if he will run for governor of Alabama
himself, Barkley says, "Next year!"
He says he's retired, relaxing and trying to
figure out what life has in store for him. He thinks that private enterprise
might be a better way than politics to help people.
5. BILL & HILLARY CLINTON LIBRARY PROGRAM
If you are tired of the way the liberal media
have simply ignored the Clintons' transgressions during the '90s -- including
their negligence involving 9/11 -- NewsMax has a unique way you can respond.
NewsMax's blockbuster new book "Catastrophe:
Clinton's Role in America's Worst Disaster" does much to uncover the truth about
what really happened under Clinton that set the stage for 9/11.
"Catastrophe" has already hit best-seller status
on Amazon -- and has been the buzz of talk radio land since it was published
last month.
Now NewsMax has launched a special "Reach
America" program that allows you to donate a copy of "Catastrophe" to your local
library, school, public official -- or anyone you think should read this book.
Putting this book in libraries is especially
effective. By becoming part of the library archive, this book becomes part of
the permanent history of 9/11 -- and will be viewed by generations to come.
So, bypass the Dan Rathers -- check out more
details of the NewsMax special "Expose Bill & Hillary" effort and learn how you
can help us reach millions of Americans through libraries.
