TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The 24-year-old daughter of Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, President Bush's younger brother, was arrested early Tuesday on charges she tried to fill a false prescription at a drug store.

Noelle Bush was charged with fraudulently obtaining a controlled substance. She was released pending a court appearance.

The Orlando Sentinel reported that she tried to pass a forged prescription for Xanax, an anti-anxiety medication, at a 24-hour Walgreen's drug store in Tallahassee, the state capital.

Governor Bush and his wife issued a statement requesting privacy.

"Columba and I are deeply saddened over an incident that occurred last night involving our daughter Noelle," the statement said.

"This is a very serious problem. Unfortunately, substance abuse is an issue confronting many families across our nation," it said. "We ask the public and the media to respect our family privacy during this difficult time so that we can help our daughter.

"We will have no further comment on this issue. Thank you for your understanding," the statement said.

Noelle is the Bushes' only daughter, and they have two sons. Bush is running for his second term as Republican governor in November against an undetermined Democrat opponent, likely to be former Clinton Attorney General Janet Reno of Miami.
