Arabs Should 'Go to Hell,' Top Israeli Rabbi Says

Calling Palestinians "snakes" and "vipers" apparently passes for political correctness in Israel, where a rabbi whose political party holds 17 seats in parliament lashed out at Arabs and warned that the Messiah would come and promptly "send them on their way" to hell.

"In the old city of Jerusalem they're swarming like ants. They should go to hell - and the Messiah will speed them on their way," said Rabbi Ovadia Yossef during his a weekly sermon broadcast over Israeli army radio, according to Agence France Presse.

Yossef, the founder of the Shas political party, part of the ruling coalition headed by Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, has previously been considered a moderate on Arab-Israeli relations, and had favored making territorial concessions to the Palestinians in exchange for peace.

No more. Yossef's party is now among Israeli hard-liners who want to come down hard on Palestinians to end the 10-month-long Arab uprising.

He also let loose a blast at the prime minister for his policy of "restraint" in dealing with the Palestinians and demanded that Sharon forget about foreign criticism should he follow Yossef's advice and come down hard on the Arabs.

"Who are these nations of the world? The Messiah will come and scorn them, will condemn them and with a single breath will scatter them," he stormed.
