I Didn't Even Know He Had a Goat Named 'Dignity'
Neal Boortz
Friday, Dec. 7, 2001
Taliban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar is trying to work out a deal with the tribal leaders closing in on Kandahar. A Taliban spokesman said Omar would be "allowed to live with dignity" in Afghanistan as part of the deal.

That idea doesn’t sit very well with Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. The question is what can we do about it? We have gone to great lengths to at least appear to take a hands-off approach in the post-Taliban decisions of Afghan leaders. Any pressure put on Afghanistan to punish Omar will need to be covert.

If he is allowed to live, dignity should be no part of it.

She's Standing in the Doorway to the Schoolhouse

Do you know who Mary Frances Berry is? She’s the wonderful chairwoman of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. They’re the ones who held hearings in Florida after the election to look for signs of political hanky-panky with the black voters.

They weren’t able to turn up one single voter who was prevented from voting. They couldn’t turn up one single piece of evidence of any concerted effort to alter black votes.

But months later Berry leaked a commission report (one that Republican members were effectively prevented from being part of) that Florida officials at all levels were responsible for widespread disenfranchisement of the state's minority voters in the 2000 presidential election.

It should be fun to watch today’s meeting of the commission. President Bush’s new appointment is Peter Kirsanow, a black conservative, and Berry is none too happy.

She says she will not seat him or swear him in unless U.S. marshals show up to force her. She sees her dictatorship over the commission slipping and she wants to change the rules in the middle of the game to keep that from happening.

The whole flap is a bit involved, but it shows once again how liberals refuse to play when things don’t go their way. Mullah Berry – oops, I mean Ms. Berry – is behaving like a spoiled brat, and the sooner she leaves the commission the better off black Americans (and all Americans) will be.

It's That Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy Again

Thankfully it got little news play because of the war, but on Wednesday, Bill Clinton broke wind ... I mean broke ground on his presidential library in Arkansas. Eventually the topic of his legacy came up and of his impeachment. He reminded the reporters that the Senate failed to convict him. He continued:

"I think they were right [in finding him not guilty], and I believe the fact that we stood up to this right-wing movement will be something that will rebound to my credit in history. I don't think it will be a black mark."

He may be right. Compared to reports that Somalia tried multiple times to give his administration Osama bin Laden and information about al-Qaeda but Clinton turned them down every time, impeachment may seem insignificant.

Everybody Hit the Dirt ... It's Santa!!!

Roy Tidwell has been playing Santa for five years now. He goes into shopping malls in St. Louis dressed as the jolly old elf and combines his Christmas shopping with talking to the children in the mall.

Well, that was before. Now the mall security says no one is allowed in the mall in costume unannounced. His white beard is real but rules are rules. I guess I can see where mall security is coming from, but it’s still sad that the terrorists have brought us to this point. As has been said many times, we will never be the same.

He Has a Gift for Expressing the Obvious, Doesn't He?

Appearing on Fox News' "Hannity and Colmes," Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle was asked about his conflicts with the Bush administration. He replied, "... we got into quite a bit of disagreement about foreign policy last summer. But that is because we disagreed."

Duh! First he implied that Democrats would fight Bush if he went after Saddam Hussein, but when pressed on it, he backed off. It’s beginning to look like the Democratic ticket in 2004 will be Daschle/Hillary. The biggest battle will be who heads it.

 Jay Leno:

Johnny Walker went to a terrorist school in Afghanistan. He’s so crazy he had a full scholarship.

American Armed Forces are on full alert ... in case Geraldo tries to get back in the country.

Isn’t it nice to have a president in the news because his stimulus package is opposed ... as opposed to his package is in the news because it’s stimulated?
