THE LEFT COAST REPORT

Getting away from Hollywood seems to have changed Madonna’s point of view.

Reuters reports that, in a recent interview with BBC Radio One, Madonna describes her new pastime: She shoots pheasants.

"I eat birds. You have more of a respect for the things you eat when you go through or see the process of killing them," Madonna says.

The Left Coast Report thinks Madonna is ready to star in the celebrity version of "Survivor.”

Material Girl to Total Woman

In yet another sign of the changing times, Madonna’s husband has told her to cover up, the Associated Press informs us.

Filmmaker Guy Ritchie is telling his wife to alter her trademark wardrobe. He apparently would prefer that his wife not perform in skimpy attire.

Madonna insists she should be allowed to dress as she wants, but adds, "I have to pick and choose my battles.”

The Left Coast Report understands that Madonna may be working on a remake to please her Guy: "Dressing Like a Virgin.”

Thomasons to the Rescue

Hollywood producers Harry Thomason and Linda Bloodworth Thomason have decided to try and direct the public’s attention toward something more meaningful during these troubled times: Building the ex-president’s legacy.

According to the Washington Times, the Thomasons think they may have found the next "Harry Potter” in a movie version of a book about the Clintons.

There were so many titles to choose from, but only one appears to stand out as adequate enough for the important task at hand.

The literary choice is "The Hunting of the President: The Ten Year Campaign to Destroy Bill and Hillary Clinton,” by Joe Conason and Gene Lyon.

The Left Coast Report suspects that the Thomasons are going to indulge in a bit more fantasy than J.K. Rowling did.

Coming to a Theater Near You

Hollywood producers and unions joined forces to put together a three-minute film called "The Spirit of America."

UPI reports that the film will have more than 130 segments and contain footage ranging from "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" to "The Patriot."

The compilation of snippets is intended to highlight Uncle Sam’s greatest moments in Hollywood.

Theaters will have the option of using it as they wish.

Spinmeister Settles Down

Devoted F.O.B. and ABC news personality George Stephanopoulos recently married comedian-actress Alexandra Wentworth at Manhattan’s Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral.

The New York Post’s Page 6 quipped that it was the most dramatic melding since Arianna Stassinopoulos wed Michael Huffington.

FCC Wants a Peek at Victoria's Secret

A Federal Communications Commission member has requested an investigation into whether "Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show” violated indecency regulations.

According to Fox News and the Associated Press, Michael Copps, an FCC commissioner, received dozens of complaints about the show and the series of commercials that promoted it.

The hourlong prime-time special, which featured supermodels in lingerie, generated complaints from the left and the right.

National Organization for Women and Parents Television Council criticized ABC for the overview of underwear.

FCC officials have been viewing the tape repeatedly to determine whether it meets decency standards, but it appears that further research is still needed.

MTV, Muslim Style

Variety reports that the U.S. wants its MTV on the front lines in the propaganda battle.

The thinking is that MTV could help convey a more positive view of America to young Middle Easterners in the 15-to-30 age bracket.

MTV International is available in parts of the Mideast through the Showtime platform. The problem is that less than half of the 25 million Mideast households have access to satellite.

The Left Coast Report suggests that projecting a positive view of the U.S. to American teens might be of a higher priority.

Riding in Cars With Oprah

According to an informal survey conducted by Anheuser-Busch, Americans have an overwhelming favorite when it comes to choosing a sober celebrity who can drive them home after they’ve had a few too many.

The winner is ... Oprah Winfrey. She was picked over contenders Jennifer Lopez, Jay Leno, George Clooney, Jackie Chan, Will Smith, Julia Roberts and Rosie O'Donnell.

The Left Coast Report is convinced of the wisdom of using a designated driver this holiday season, but cautions that sober celebrities may be in short supply.

Faith-Based Music The Associated Press indicates that faith-based music spiked in popularity after the Sept. 11 attacks.

Christian music sales increased by as much as 33 percent, according to the Gospel Music Association.

"There's probably some correlation to the fact that we're at war, and talking more openly about faith," said Steven Curtis Chapman, one of Christian music's biggest stars.

The Left Coast Report sees the beginnings of a spiritual revival in the nation. It may just be a silver lining in the clouds of our misfortune.
