Homeland Security Director Tom Ridge said Friday that anthrax strains found in Florida, New York and Washington have not been "weaponized," meaning they have not been altered to make it spread more easily in the air.

The strains are indistinguishable from one another, health experts said. "It does appear that it may have come from the same batch," Ridge said at a White House news conference.

"It may have been distributed to different individuals to infect and descend into different communities."
