Bush Administration Cracks Down on Cuban Diplomats

The Bush administration, in the aftermath of Sept. 11, has recently issued significant limitations on the movement of Cuban officials in the United States.
Cuba is identified as a state sponsor of terrorism by the State Department.
According to Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart, R-Fla., President Bush's new restrictions on the movements of Cuban diplomats are "effective immediately."
These are the following restrictions:
1. Movements of Cuban dictatorship diplomats will be severely restricted in Washington and New York.
2. Any movements by Cuban dictatorship diplomats outside that area are subject to strict 72-hour prior notification and authorization requirements.
3. No visas will be issued to Cuban dictatorship officials for travel to anywhere in the U.S. outside Washington, D.C., and New York City.
Rep. Diaz-Balart's press release also says, "For the past 8 years, Cuban dictatorship officials have enjoyed great freedom of movement inside the United States. U.S. diplomats, however, are denied reciprocal treatment and are subject to severely controlled movement in Cuba."
Diaz-Balart said, "I commend President Bush for these new restrictions on Castro's so-called diplomats in the United States and for ending the blatant double standard that existed previously in the movement permitted of Castro diplomats here compared to U.S. diplomats in Cuba."
