U.N. Warns of 'Global Warming'

SHANGHAI, China (UPI) – A new United Nations report indicates that global temperatures could rise by more than 10 degrees over the next century, resulting in changing weather patterns that could lead to droughts, floods and other disasters.

The U.N. report, prepared by scientists from 99 countries, concluded that new evidence suggests more strongly than ever that higher temperatures are the result of industrial pollution, rather than naturally occurring causes.

The projection is dramatically higher than previous estimates, but the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reports that a few countries, including Britain and Germany, are keeping their commitments to cut emissions of greenhouse gases.

A top official at the conference said Monday that the United States was considerably short of meeting its target for cutting greenhouse gas emission.
