Voting ‘Constitutional’

Editor’s Note: Neal Boortz is on vacation. While he’s away, we will be publishing material he has submitted recently, much of which we were unable to find space for before.

Voting ‘Constitutional’

It means that your congressman casts his votes based on the strict limitations set forth in the United States Constitution. In other words, if the Constitution doesn’t say that the federal government can do it, don’t vote for it.

Do any of you really think that a significant number of our elected officials really pay attention to the Constitution when they’re casting their votes?

Here is some research showing just how highly our Congressmen think of the Constitution:

· Among current members of the U.S. House, 96 percent vote with the Constitution less than 24 percent of the time.

· More than 63 percent of current U.S. House members vote with the Constitution less than half the time.

· There are 212 Democrats in the House right now. They vote with the Constitution an average of 22 percent of the time.

· There are 221 Republicans in the House. They vote with the Constitution about 58 percent of the time.

· The average for all members of Congress is voting with the Constitution about 40 percent of the time.

· Only 18 members of the House vote with the Constitution more than 75 percent of the time.

All of these people took an oath (you know, the "So help me God" bit) to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States. Now you see how well they’ve done.

It would surely be interesting to ask a member of the House this question: "Congressman, can you name one time in your illustrious career when you actually didn’t vote for a piece of legislation you wanted because of your belief that it violated the U.S. Constitution?"

The President Who So Respects Women Joins the Harris Bashers

First it was "Politically Incorrect" host Bill Maher making a joke about killing Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris. Now the Liar-in-Chief himself has climbed aboard the "Let's Get Katherine Harris" bandwagon.

Thursday's edition of the Washington Post provides the details. It seems that Bill Clinton attended a party hosted by Phil and Melanne Verveer, Hillary's chief of staff. Clinton presented "survivor" medals to eight of Hillary's staffers who lasted all eight years at the White House.

Phil Verveer joked that he hoped no one would confuse these medals with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Apparently, the folks who receive the Medal of Freedom have a nasty habit of dying shortly after the ceremony.

Clinton's reply: "I guess I should have given one to Katherine Harris." According to the Post, Clinton's comment drew "appreciative chuckles all around."

The word is out: Dis Katherine Harris all you can, 'cause she's Democrat Enemy Number One. She handed Al Gore his electoral defeat, so the Democrats are hell-bent on revenge.

Oh, by the way. You do know what would happen if a Republican political leader made a similar joke about some socialist Democrat, don’t you?

Neal Boortz is the hugely popular nationally syndicated radio host.
