Open Letter to Bush: Tell America It's 'Vote Fraud'
Jack Wheeler
Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000
Dear Governor Bush,

Your brother Jeb has said it: The recounts in Florida are "rigged." Republican congressional leader Tom DeLay has said it: The Democrats are engaging in electoral "theft" in Florida. The same is being said by millions of Americans across the country. I implore you to do the same.

I implore you to address the country on prime-time national television and tell the American people that Al Gore is attempting to steal the Presidency of the United States.

There is an ever-larger mountain of evidence for this, and you can summarize it. But what is absolutely critical – not just for your victory but for the survival of the rule of law in America – is that not just your brother or other surrogates but you yourself publicly make the accusation of theft and state the case for it.

I implore you to use the actual words "theft," "steal," and "stolen," and make it clear to the American people that a stolen presidency is the death of democracy for our country.

Governor Bush, if you do not do this, if you allow Mr. Gore to become an illegitimate president, there will be a Second Civil War. Millions of Americans will stop obeying federal laws, millions more will obey them only when it is practically expedient to do so (as any moral obligation to be law-abiding is gone).

There will be violent protests with rocks, guns, and bombs. There will be wholesale computer sabotage launched upon government systems. The Democrats in turn will demonize as evil traitors any who oppose them. The stock market will plummet through the basement, with trillions of middle class investors' life savings gone with the wind.

An illegitimate president means an illegitimate government. For the world's leading power and political beacon to de-legitimize itself, to politically self-destruct, would have monumentally catastrophic consequences for political and economic freedom around the world.

Now it is up to you, and you alone, to prevent all of this. You can prevent it by taking a stand and saying, "This shall not pass. The Presidency of the United States of America will not be stolen."

May God bless you, Governor Bush, and may God bless America.
